So you want to know more about us?
(Remember, you asked for it!)
The barber shop style of music has often been
described as the ultimate form of a capella singing.
If (or when) you join with three other men and
sing a few four-part "ringing" chords, you can
experience the thrill of producing not just four
musical tones, but possibly five -- or even six!
How can that happen? Come join us and find out!
We are a SPEBSQSA (now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society) chapter dedicated to quartets and fun! Our motto is Qualitas Significant Nihil, which translates
to mean "Quality Means Nothing." That doesn't mean that we are not good singers, it means we sing to have fun!
Our goal as a chorus is to enjoy singing and to entertain you -- and to perpetuate the craft of four-part harmony
that originally started our uniquely American style of
music. Anyone and everyone has an opportunity to
sing in a quartet at every chapter meeting.
How do we do it?
Each week our "Quartet Meister" selects quartets from the members and guests -- and we sing. There is no pressure or obligation to sing perfectly, just to have fun and get to know everyone.
What makes Roswell so special?
Bill Arnold (1920-2007) - A Legend in his own time!
On July 3, 1999, Bill Arnold was presented an award from the society recognizing his 60th year in the Barbershop Harmony Society. There was only one active member who had been in the society longer than Bill. Bill had been a member of the Roswell chapter since its inception. With such a long history in Barbershopping, you can imagine that he had many awards and had performed in many quartets and choruses. He said that receiving this award was even more meaningful than when his quartet won the district championships, or his experience singing with O.C. Cash. Bill was called home to that "Great Quartet in the Sky" January 2, 2007 and his presence has been greatly missed.
